Atmosphere

A popular science book, originally titled L'atmosphère: météorologie populaire, by the French astronomer Camille Flammarion, published in 1888. It included the Flammarion engraving, which later became well known and widely reprinted. Online text of the English translation is available at the Internet Archive.

A tiny man man assured Doctor Wycherly that he would never find a copy of a book like Flammarion's Atmosphere in a bookstore [HH Guardian]. However, it does not appear to be quite that rare; copies are currently listed for sale at websites such as abebooks.com.
